[What to Expect] [Types of Comps] [Typical Events] [Checklist] [Gold Medal] [How to Interp Scores] [Sample Scores] [Combining SP/FS] [Judges] Scoring - Combining Results of SP and FS At some competitions, skaters skate both a Short Program (SP) and a Freeskate (FS), and the results are combined to arrive at a final combined placement. The method of combination is quite simple, and it is outlined in the Rulebook in Sections CR 16.41 and CR 16.42. Basically, the PLACEMENT for a skater (i.e. 1 for first place, 2 for second place) in each program is multiplied by an assigned fraction or Factor, then both of the factors for the skater are added up to form a Factored Total for that skater. The Factored Totals for all skaters in the event are placed in order, and the lower Factored Totals give the better placements. In the event of a tie in Factored Total, the Freeskating placement breaks the tie (CR 16.42A3). For singles and pairs events the Factors are as shown here:
