Pairs Elements - Group 3 Lifts

Group 3 lifts are known as "Hand-to-Hip Hold Lifts".   Common lifts in this group include the Cartwheel Lift, and Star Lift, and Platter Lift.

Star Lift / Cartwheel Lift

Both the Star Lift and the Cartwheel Lift start with both partners skating backwards.  The man places one hand on the lady's hip and holds her opposite hand with his free hand. The lady's other hand is on the man's shoulder.  The lady picks as for a toe loop, and is lifted to full overhead position.  Her position in the air is similar to a spiral position, while the man holds her at the hip with one hand.

For the star lift, the lady holds this position while the man does multiple rotations.  In a cartwheel lift the lady "rolls over" the man like a cartwheel on the ground.

Platter Lift

For a Platter lift both partners initially face each other.  The man places his hands on the lady's hips, and the lady usually places her hands on the man's wrists or shoulders.  She takes off and is lifted to a full overhead position.  She assumes a position parallel to the ice, with the man holding her at the hip.
