Connecting Elements - Small Jumps
Connecting elements are all those things that go in between the jumps and spins in a program. In a well choreographed program, these elements do more than just fill the time between the "big stuff" -- they contribute in an integrated way to the overall artistic expression of the program. It is unfortunate that many skaters put so little emphasis on the value of these elements.
The variety of possible connecting elements is limited mostly by the imagination and abilities of the skater and the choreographer. Some of the more common elements are described here. For clarity, I've loosely categorized these items as either "grace moves" and
"small jumps" . Some of the Small Jumps include Half
Flip, Split Jump, Russian
Split, Stag Jump, Bunny
Hop, Mazurka, Ballet
Jump, and Falling Leaf.
