Competition Elements - Low Levels

Many local competitions across the nation now offer many events for skaters at beginning levels. Additionally, many competitions sub-divide the Preliminary level to provide additional opportunities for competition.

The Rulebook does not provide definition for content of programs at the lower levels, though, so when a competition committee decides to offer these events, it sets its own definitions. When these definitions differ from event-to-event, skaters and coaches are inconvenienced.

In many areas, local Interclub councils work together to define common expectations for lower level events. On this page is a sample set of definitions, as provided by the Detroit Metro Council which serves southeast Michigan. If your area does not have such a standard, you may wish to adopt these recommendations for your competition.
