No more than 3 jump combinations or jump sequences may be performed in any freeskating program at any level (#3643c, 3663a, 3672a, 3681a, 3691, 3701, 3711, 3721).
Note however that in Senior or Junior level programs, additional jump sequences containing jumps of not more than 1 revolution may be performed as part of the connecting footwork preceding double, triple, or quadruple jumps. These do not count against the 3 combo/sequence limit (#3643d).
For jump COMBOs there is a general limit of 2 jumps per combo, excepting that one combo in the program may include 3 jumps. This applies to Juvenile through Senior level programs (#3643c, 3663a, 3672a, 3681b).
There is no limit on the number of jumps included in each jump SEQUENCE (#3643d, 3663a, 3672a, 3681b).
| Level | Allowed Jumps | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Junior, Senior | Max 8 jump elements (men), 7 jump elements (ladies) | #3643, 3653 |
| Novice | Max 7 jump elements (men), 6 jump elements (ladies) | #3663 |
| Intermediate | Max of 6 jump elements | #3681 |
| Juvenile | Max of 6 jump elements; no triples allowed | #3672 |
| PreJuvenile | Axel + up to 4 different double jumps | #3691 |
| Preliminary | Axel + up to 2 different double jumps | #3701 |
| PrePreliminary | Axel but NO double jumps | #3711 |
| No-Test | no Axel, no double jumps | #3721 |
All single jumps are allowed in the above programs (unless otherwise specified in the competition announcement).
| Level | Allowed Repeats | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Senior/Junior | Only 2 different jumps (3 or more revs) may be repeated, and if repeated, they must be in combo or sequence. No (triple or quad) may be attempted more than twice. Triple and Quad jumps with the same name are considered different jumps. | #3643e |
| Novice | No double or triple jump may be repeated more than once, and if repeated, that jump must be in combo or sequence. No more than 3 different double or triple jumps may be repeated in the program; a maximum of 2 of which may be triples or quads. | #3663b |
| Intermediate | No double jump may be repeated more than once, and if repeated must be in combo or sequence. Only 1 triple (or higher) may be repeated, and if repeated must be in combo or sequence. No more than 3 different double or triple jumps may be repeated in the program | #3672b |
| Juvenile | No double jump may be repeated more than once, and if repeated must be in combo or sequence. No more than 3 different double jumps may be repeated in the program | #3681c |
| any | Skater may execute either triple toe loop and triple toe Walley, but NOT both. | #3634a |
In the above descriptions, the word "different" refers to different kinds of jumps, not total numbers of jumps; for instance a PreJuvenile skater could perform 6 double jumps as long as there were only 4 different kinds attempted (only 4 out of double toe, double Salchow, double loop, double flip, double Lutz, double Axel, double toe walley, etc).
A program is not considered well balanced when it contains an extra number, or a less-than minimum number of any element, or when it lacks connecting steps between elements. When a program is not balanced the deduction is 0.2 in the Technical Merit mark for EACH extra or lacking element (under 6.0 system of judging) (#3363).
